River District Artists

Asheville's River Arts District

27 miles (31 minutes) from Lake Junaluska
Use these directions to get from Lake Junaluska to the Asheville Visitors' Center/Chamber of Commerce. Then, on this map of the River Arts District, you will see the Visitors' Center/Chamber of Commerce in the upper right corner. Start exploring from there!

Description from their website:
Like a geode that encloses dazzling crystals, this neighborhood of modest old brick buildings holds dozens of studios that contain the masterworks of artists who have been drawn here from the world over. Open the doors to find music, dance, and an exhilarating array of visual arts and craft. You will hear the clang of metal being worked, the roar of a glass furnace, the whir of a potter’s wheel or witness a needle as it silently slides through hand dyed fabric. There are jewelers, potters and furniture makers. There are sculptors who work in steel, clay, wood & glass. There are painters, printmakers and photographers, as well as artists who work with paper, fiber and mixed or digital media. Whether the method is centuries old or high tech, you will be astounded by the variety of art.

Look for the bright yellow and black River Arts District sandwich boards. Some studios welcome retail visitors six days a week, others just on Fridays & Saturdays. Many artists are available
only by appointment, except during the Studio Stroll (2nd full weekends of June & November each year).
